Abstract
Most national policies point out the strategic development of IT as one of the focus areas. "Strategic" in this context means managed paths to get maximum benefit on the ongoing information society megatrend. Every nation has had its starting point in this development path: focus areas are varying, IT utilisation differs, etc. This means also, that the path is different. In this paper, Estonian and Finnish paths towards more improved information society are discussed
