Abstract :
Despite the essential role of the notion of security in the operation of any organization, the philosophical foundations of the scientific effort in security have been largely unexamined. Most of the existing reported research in this area has been driven by practical objectives. A recent advance in this direction is to embrace the concept described by French philosophers Deleuze and Guattari of a “machine.” Security is thought to be a machine of interruptions or breaks. This paper is a contribution to this conception of security as a machine. It proposes an abstract apparatus to represent such a machine. The machine representation is based on a conceptual model with a flow system that acts as a system of interruptions or breaks.
