Abstract :
In infrastructureless networks like P2P networks and mobile ad hoc networks, a pair of nodes are not always supported with reliable and efficient communication. For example, some relay nodes may be faulty and a communication link between some pair of neighboring nodes may be degraded in QoS due to noise. In this paper, we propose a parallel transmission protocol for reliably and efficiently transmitting data in P2P overlay networks. Packets of data are transmitted in multiple communication paths to support enough QoS. Even if each communication path does not support applications wit enough QoS, amount of QoS supported by multiple communication paths can support enough QoS. A subsequence of packets are in addition replicated with a parity packet in order to be tolerant of packet loss. Even if a packet is lost, the lost packet can be recovered by the parity packet and the other packets in the subsequence. Packets are lost in a burst manner. In order to be tolerant of burst loss of packets in a communication path, we discuss vertical and horizontal parity packets. We discuss how packets of data are allocated to multiple communication paths in order to increase the throughput and are replicated to be tolerant of burst packet loss.
