Framework for Web Services in Education Management

Education System comprises of three main phases of functionality: Data collection, data processing and data dissemination. Education system uses Education Management Information System (EMIS) to collect process and disseminate data which lacks application to application data transfer. Moreover direct data transfer requires special arrangement of hardware and software components. In this paper, we propose three tier architecture based framework for EMIS which supports application to application data transfer using Web services for data collection and dissemination. We have also proposed architectures for all three phases of EMIS and integrated them to propose Web service based 3-tier architecture for EMIS for application to application data transfer which makes data collection and dissemination process faster. Implementation detail is provided in this paper which is supported by a case study on school information system. The proposed framework can be extended to add more functionality in application layer, more clients can be added and database can be extended to store more information.
