Abstract :
This work presents a robust model predictive control (MPC) technique for Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converters present in a network composed of a onshore Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind farm (WF) and synchronous generator(SG). The wind farm is approximated by a single DFIG system. An AC tie line assumed to be present in parallel to the HVDC transmission line. The control strategy adopted is based on solution of an optimization problem, objective of which is to reduce deviations from reference parameters for future steps. The technique has proved itself to be effective in case of various faults on different parts of the network by stabilizing the oscillations which are greater due to presence of an ac connection between the grid and the WF. The whole system modeling was done in MATLAB and results prove its robustness in mitigating oscillations and stabilizing the system in case of different fault events.
