Abstract :
In the area of wind energy conversion system (WECS), there has been a lot of research going on to improve the power extraction capability of the variable speed wind turbines. Permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbines have become more popular in this regard. In this paper detailed modeling of a direct-drive PMSG in the grid connected mode is presented. This paper compares the performance of the above system with PI controller and Differential Evolution (DE) optimized PI controller for different wind speeds. Simulation results are obtained using Matlab software.
