Abstract
Fuel cell is a simple static device that converts chemical energy in a fuel directly isothermally and continuously into electrical energy. Isothermal operation enables fuel cells to completely bypass the Carnot limitation on efficiency suffered by heat engines operating between a hot side and a cold side. Thus fuel cells inherently promise higher conversion efficiencies.
