Abstract
In this paper, a new cascading H-bridge chopper topology fed dc motor drive is presented. The present work aims at development of a cascading H-bridge chopper topology to reduce ripples in torque, especially at low speed operating conditions for a given switching frequency of the chopper based PWM technique. The torque variations are predicted analytically for the existing H-bridge and proposed scheme. The proposed topology is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. Numerical simulation results confirm the analytical predictions. These results confirm the reduction in torque ripple in the dc motor drive due to the proposed technique.
