Abstract
Smart grids are power administration networks that include a significant infrastructure communication, which is used to collect and monitor the operational status and data of the grid. Load-consumption pattern from a grid can be obtained from the field measurements of individual consumer´s power consumption measurements done over a certain interval of time. In this paper the principle of profiling power consumption measurements is applied so as to separate and classify the users into different clusters. With these highly accurate profiles of energy consumption, it is possible to identify consumer´s peculiar activities or behavior patterns. This information may be used to take several technical, management and security decisions in Smart grid. This paper uses a new approach for converting the data set into a predefined matrix which is able to more accurately classify clusters of power consumption than simply using raw power measurements where calculations and determination are complicated and error prone.
