  • Abstract
    As the amount of Internet flux over wireless networks in acutely rising, it has become a global phenomenon that the wireless operators are shifting their focus to the latest trend in the sphere of mobile communication, the 4G. This paper sheds light on the development of mobile technology over the ages and how 4G came into being. It presents the timeline for evolution of the four generations of mobile communication, the needs that gave birth to the different generations, the technologies introduced in each generation and their technical specifications. Brief descriptions on the key technological advancements that have taken place are also included in this paper. The paper is concluded with a comparative analysis of 2G, 3G and 4G.
