  • Abstract
An equiangular spiral PCF with elliptical air holes as first ring is presented in this paper. As a simulation tool we use COMSOL multi-physics 4.2 software. The finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer (PML) circular boundary is used to investigate the guiding properties. The MES-PCF exhibits nearly zero flattened dispersion over 1.25-1.75 μm wavelength with low confinement and splice losses of order 2×10-7 dB/km and 6.558803 dB respectively at 1.55 μm. The fiber which can resist bending effects due to macro-bend as low as 1 mm with a bending loss of order 0.0015 dB/km at a wavelength of 1.55 μm makes it good enough for long distance transmission and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications. So, the proposed MES-PCF can be used to mitigate the demand for long distance transmission as well as FTTH applications.
