Abstract
Since the self-pumped phase-conjugate (SPPC) mirrors generated by total internal reflections (Cat conjugator) in photorefractive crystals were discovered, they have shown great application potentials in many fields. However, the response time of phase-conjugate generation in photorefractive crystals is slower under continuous-wave illumination than required for many applications. Consequently, much attention has been attracted in the area of photorefractive researches using short laser pulses with high peak intensity, and the photorefractive characteristics under pulse conditions have been intensively investigated. The light source usually utilized are Nd:YAG lasers. Recently, SPPC mirrors with a light source of laser diode (LD) has been used in many applications because of the excellent features of low price, compact structure, and frequency tunability of LDs. As a light source for pulse operation, LD can be utilized in such fields as optical communication, optical measurements, and so on. We report the performance of self-pumped phase conjugation in Ce:BaTiO/sub 3/ with repetitively pulsed nanosecond pulses from a LD.
