Abstract
In this paper, the Fast Inhomogeneous Plane Wave Algorithm (FIPWA) for layered media is described to solve the buried object problems. The multi-level algorithm has been successfully implemented and the memory and computational complexity are shown to be O(N log N). Comparing the algorithm with the free space counterpart, it is shown that the increase of computational resource required for the buried object problems is small. Extension to a static capacitance solver as well as a broadband solver for complex structures is also illustrated
