Abstract
Recent events at EPA and growing problems throughout the United States with waste disposal sites have had a negative effect on the public´s perception of waste disposal and are resulting in growing Congressional pressure to upgrade regulations in the waste area and provide more protection for victims of hazardous waste problems. Members of both the House of Representatives and the Senate have indicated that current federal legislation and regulations are inadequate and proposed changes to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and to the system for compensating victims exposed to hazardous substances.
