Abstract :
During the course of using computational fluid dynamics to determine the complete set of Magnus coefficients over the attack angles. It was found that each configuration showed differences in the dynamics characteristics. In order to understand such phenomenon, the dynamic characteristics of a generic 6.37 diameter long tangential-ogive-cylinder type projectile are studied by means of 3D DES simulations. The reliability of our numerical method has been verified with previous experimental data. Meanwhile several configurations with different boat tails were investigated numerically using the same method, the effects of different boat tails and base geometry on the aerodynamic coefficients are shown and discussed, which can provide guidance for designing and improving the flight quality of spinning projectiles.
