Abstract :
Fuzzy controllers are nonlinear and it is more difficult to set the controller gains when compared to conventional controllers. This research paper proposes a design procedure for equivalent fuzzy PID controller from the conventional PID controller domain over to single loop speed control of DC motor. The idea is to start with a tuned conventional PID controller and replace it with an equivalent linear fuzzy controller. This is relevant whenever a PID controller is possible or already implemented. From the simulated results of MATLAB/SIMULINK, it is proved that the fuzzy controller improves the performance over conventional controllers.
