Abstract :
The electric power is transmitted and distributed to the consumers along the transmission and distribution lines. Performance of distribution line becomes inefficient due to reduction in voltage magnitude and increasing distribution losses. Distribution system contributes the greatest amount of power loss. Distribution system reconfiguration is one of the techniques to minimize the losses. The standard switching indices are used for the network reconfiguration. In the present work a new approach has been developed to solve switching problem. An algorithm has been developed to arrive at an efficient network configuration using MATLAB software. The algorithm has been tested on standard 32 bus system and 11kV distribution system of Master Unit Sub Station, Hassan. Theoretically the cost analysis is done for reconfigured network which also yields good result.
