Abstract :
In this paper, a novel integrated active quenching-and-reset circuit (QRC) for single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) is presented, whose hold-off time is programmable. We introduce a programmable delay unit (PDU) to realize programming the hold-off time. The period of the output of the PDU when it stands low voltage can be minimized to several nanoseconds. The hold-off time can be programmed from 50ns to 2us with adding only one additional pin for an external capacitor.
