Abstract
This paper presents the results of analytical studies undertaken to assess the effectiveness of multiple static VAr compensation (SVC) in aiding the damping of interarea oscillations in the Mexican interconnected power system. A frequency-domain methodology is adopted to coordinate controllers as well as to minimise the potential for adverse interaction between control loops. The effectiveness of SVC voltage support for damping inter-area oscillations is verified by nonlinear time domain simulation studies.
