Abstract
We developed a closed-form analysis describing the statistical characteristics of the multi-path interference (MPI) induced by the effect of Rayleigh backscatter on a modulated signal in distributed Raman amplifiers. A generalized definition of noise figure is proposed in order to include MPI effects.
