Abstract :
A composite on-line scheme is proposed for computing the reciprocal of the Euclidean norm of a 3-D vector and performing the normalization of the x, y, and z components. The inputs are in sign-and-magnitude, floating-point representation and the outputs are in on-line signed-digit or in parallel form obtained by an on-the-fly conversion scheme. The clock period is kept small by the use of redundant adders and low-precision estimates. The composite algorithm, its implementation and performance are discussed and compared with other approaches.
