Abstract :
Differential scanning calorimetry has been employed to study the specific heat of optimally quenched Nd/sub 15/Fe/sub 77/Al/sub 2/B/sub 6/ ribbons and mechanically alloyed and compacted Nd/sub 16/Fe/sub 76/B/sub 8/ samples in the temperature range 350 to 980 K. The magnetic contribution of the Nd/sub 2/Fe/sub 14/B-phase to the total specific heat near T/sub C/ can be described by the critical exponent alpha =0.125 (3-D-Ising system); the rounding of the specific-heat peak is attributed to a distribution of the Curie temperature in the sample.
