Provides an overview of the mainframe computer industry including: Hewlett Packard, the RISC community, IBM and Intel CISC. In the highest-performance segment of the market, a radical realignment already visible in 1993 kept going as vector supercomputers lost more ground to alternative architectures ranging from massively parallel processors (MPPs) to RISC-based SMP systems.
