Abstract
MPEG-7 is the most recent standardization activity of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). MPEG-7 is still in its early stages where its scope, requirements, and evaluation procedures are being defined. It is expected to become an international standard in year 2001. The purpose of this paper is to serve as an introduction to MPEG-7, its scope and requirements, as well as the current state of its development process. MPEG-7 presents challenges to a number of technical communities including the image processing community
