Abstract
Adjustable speed drives are widely used in the petroleum, chemical and pipeline industries for energy savings and process control optimization. Their output powers range from fractions of kilowatts through tens of megawatts, with motor speeds up to 20000 rpm. They are almost exclusively AC Drives. This paper discusses the particular needs specific to that industry.
