Abstract
Rate control plays an important role in JPEG2000, in which the nonorthogonal wavelet transforms require the mean squared error (MSE) in each subband to be appropriately scaled. modified weight metric is investigated that provides better compression performance than the one specified in the JPEG2000 standard. The experiment is carried out in the JPEG2000 framework. Similar consideration may be applied to real wavelet transforms for lossy image compression.
