Abstract
In 2001, industry standardization of initial requirements for high accuracy airport map databases was completed, resulting in the release of EUROCAE/RTCA standards document DO-272. Later that year, the FAA began making available vector airport map databases compliant with the new RTCA standard. The high accuracy and content of this data, combined with airport surface traffic surveillance information, will enable a new level of flight deck situational awareness applications. Rockwell Collins is investigating the use of these technologies on a variety of avionics display application platforms.
