Abstract
In cellular mobile communication systems, radio channels are repeatedly used in order to efficiently utilize the assigned frequency spectrum. The computation time becomes large in order to optimize the channel assignments with the increase of cell number. This paper presents a channel optimization method which utilizes the genetic algorithm (GA). Prior to the optimization, whole channel assignment cells are divided into subgroups. Then, each subgroup is optimized. Using these optimized results, the whole cells are again optimized This process gives efficiency to calculate an optimized solution. As a result, the proposed method gives shorter computation time compared with those methods currently used.
