Abstract
Video stream services have recently been deployed in mobile packet networks. It is important to mitigate the deterioration of quality in video playback due to dynamic changes in wireless bandwidth and delay. The paper proposes a rate control mechanism for a UDP based video stream service in a best-effort high-speed mobile packet network. The proposed mechanism is evaluated in a network simulator composed of a best-effort mobile packet network based on cdma2000 1x EV-DO (see 3GPP2 home page, http://www.3gpp2.org/) and the proposed video stream rate control mechanism. Traffic volume is verified as being adaptively controlled to avoid network congestion; the parameter setting in the proposed control mechanism is presented.
