  • Abstract
This paper focuses on the development of a new resource allocation scheme for video streaming in wireless networks. The technique utilizes the ε-weak burstiness curve which has been defined as the (1 - ε)-percentile of the maximum burstiness curve. We show that the ε-weak burstiness curve is a convex non-increasing function of the service rate. We also devise a "water-filling" algorithm to obtain the empirical ε-weak burstiness curve. The technique has been applied to MPEG-4 encoded video traces. The numerical studies show that if the ε-weak burstiness curve is used for resource provisioning, a considerable percentage of bandwidth will be saved.
