Abstract :
Technical writing and use of the scientific method are two skills necessary for computer science students. This paper presents a set of laboratory experiments for students to perform experimental verification in the context of an algorithm design and analysis course. These exercises focus on experimental design, the scientific method, data presentation, and technical writing. Although students have been exposed to the scientific method, many need practice in designing and conducting feasible experiments. In addition to example lab exercises, we attempt to point out some common problems encountered in a course using this type of exercise.
