Abstract
A joint signaling and processing scheme is proposed in this paper to improve the resolution and estimation performances of the doppler-frequency-domain processing of pulse doppler radars, particularly for the cases where the observation time is short, The basic idea is to use the frequency-diversity signaling to increase the number of independent data samples obtainable over a fixed observation time interval and perform the processing coherently so that statistically more stable high-resolution performances, insensitive to the target amplitude and phase fluctuations, can be achieved by using the same amount of transmitted power and the same amount of observation time. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the improved performances of the proposed method.
