Abstract
We consider the design of imaging systems for which image restoration is a well-conditioned problem. By assuming that both the observation and the object are discrete, we are able to derive, via the Singular Value Decomposition, conditions which minimize the condition number for either coherent or incoherent illumination systems. We also illustrate the quality of signals restored by these well-conditioned systems.
