Abstract
Due to the feature of multi-mode with various speech coding rates, a channel coding scheme for the adaptive multi-rate (AMR) standard is more complicated than the traditional single mode speech codec. In this paper, two unequal protection (UEP) schemes: a convolutional code scheme and a turbo code scheme are proposed as channel coding schemes for AMR. At the same time, according to typical parameters for conformance testing of AMR given in the 3GPP specification TS 34.108, the specified AMR channel code scheme is also designed. The above three channel coding schemes for AMR are integrated into a 3GPP-FDD uplink platform. Through simulation, the performance of different schemes are analyzed and the proper channel coding scheme is selected.
