  • Abstract
This paper introduces key issues of software download management for reconfigurable terminals using common channels in WCDMA systems. Based on the previous work, we introduce in this paper protocols enhancement to the cell-grouping broadcast approach for software download which are mainly used to reduce interference in an interference limited CDMA based system. In addition, it gives the fundamental load based criteria of system level to handover software download traffic between a common channel and a dedicated channel, as is enhanced by the packet indexing based software download strategy. With the introduction of the concept of software download mode, the actions in this mode and protocols of inter-mode handover listed in the this paper gives the realization of software download management in a WCDMA system.
