Abstract
In a PC cluster system used in an educational setting, directory service has been introduced for a integration of user account databases on multiple OS platforms. In order to evaluate the system, a performance measurement method is developed based on lookup user information paths. As a result of the evaluation, the performance is deteriorated by the integration of the user account databases. Since name service performance of the UNIX environment is impractical using the directory service, a bypass system based on Network Information Service (NIS) is developed to solve the performance problem.
