Abstract :
This paper extends an approach for the maximisation of throughput in the downlink of high data rate systems based on wideband CDMA, such as third generation mobile systems. Further analysis is provided to show that the optimisation produces an unfair allocation of resources, favouring users with low path losses. A possible measure of unfairness is suggested and is found for a simulation of the optimisation. An improvement is suggested, which reduces the computational complexity of the algorithm and provides a factor of 10 improvement in fairness, with at worst a 15% reduction in total throughput.
