Abstract
In every year and in all over the world, we have great disasters such as earthquakes or flood disasters, etc. In 1995, there was a great earthquake in the Kansai region in Japan. After the earthquake, the researches on the rescue system were initiated. In this paper, we discuss a new engineering field, named rescue engineering. The aim of this field is to provide a backup to the researches of rescue systems, and to backup the construction of the rescue engineering. We propose a new robot contest which deals with the rescue activity. This contest is called the rescue robot contest.
