Abstract
A study on the effect of impurities on the melting curve of metal-carbon (M-C) eutectics is presented. Experimentally obtained melting curves for three ingots of eutectic Fe-C with nominal total purity levels of 3N, 4N and 5N are compared with the curves calculated on the basis of a thermodynamic model, which includes the impurities in question as components.
