Abstract
This paper provides an overview of polar modulation transmitter solutions for 3G radios with different modulation formats. Conventional (linear Cartesian) transmitter architectures are summarized and some known realization inefficiencies are highlighted. Polar modulation is presented as an improved transmitter architecture and its implementation impairments are discussed. Finally, a single-chip GSM/EDGE transceiver solution is presented.
