Abstract
Network processors are an emerging field of research. These processors are designed to support network processing functions, mainly classification, modification, encryption and traffic management. This paper proposes a method for determining whether translation based on protocol control information mapping is possible between two given protocols. Such a method is then applied on a few common protocols. Preliminary results show that the proposed approach is efficient on protocols with well-defined format and service set.
