Abstract
This paper presents a technique for modeling and parameter estimation of short-range dependent (SRD) and long-range dependent (LED) multimedia traffic based on Markov-modulated and Pareto-modulated Poisson processes. The proposed technique uses samples of the traffic counting process to derive its IDC curve and probability density function for parameter matching of the long-range and short-range dependent traffic models. Simulation results on the accuracy of the proposed technique are also presented.
