Abstract
We examine the function of play as it applies to the autonomy of constructed agents in a dynamic environment. Play happens naturally when there is uncertainty over tasks and outcomes, when there is potential for change, and in open environments or unexplored domain. Jean Piaget´s cognitive model of adaptation as a combination of imitation and play will be the starting point of this examination of how play enhances learning and behavior development in a dynamic environment through looping interactions. We will consider if play can happen in a system of constructed agents, and if so, to what extent play would be desirable given the tasks of the system and the nature of the environment.
