Abstract
Smart image sensing (electronic retina) is a valuable technique in real-time vision systems. But this technique can not be considered simply as an image sensor design problem because the local information processing in a smart sensor should be placed in more general context including algorithms, architectures, and applications. This paper tries to give an overview with concrete examples of our laboratory on the role that an electronic retina can play in real-time vision systems.
