Abstract
A fast and accurate tool for numerical modeling of the prism and superprism effects is developed. Computation results obtained confirm that the dispersion of a light beam in a superprism based on photonic crystals is much stronger than the dispersion in ordinary dielectric prisms. These phenomena can be exploited in the fabrication of integrated microscale lightwave circuits consisting of devices such as wavelength-division multiplexed filters, add-drop multiplexers and dispersion compensators.
