Abstract :
This work have studied various waveguides and resonators in Si photonic crystal (PhC) slabs on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates, which can operate in the fiber communication wavelength region. In this study, the fabrication, design, and measurement issues of the photonic band gap (PBG) waveguides and resonators in 2D PhC slabs are reviewed. In addition, various functional elements composed by coupling among PBG waveguides and PBG resonators are described. The current status and future possible directions of PBG waveguides and resonators are also discussed.
