Abstract :
Implementation of a turbo decoder for high-speed application in W-CDMA (wideband-code division multiple access) systems and its performance are described As an implementation of the max-log-MAP (maximum a posteriori) algorithm for the turbo decoder, we propose what we call a "stepping-stone-max-log-MAP" (SS-max-log-MAP) algorithm that reduces memory size in the turbo decoder without loss of performance compared to the ordinal max-log-MAP algorithm, even when bit puncturing is used to adjust transmission data rate. Performance evaluation of the SS-max-log-MAP turbo decoder is also described when applied to a high-speed data channel in W-CDMA.
