  • Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the thrust whose objectives are to provide the enabling science, technology and design tools to allow electrical power systems, electric propulsion, and auxiliary systems to meet future mission and affordability requirements by the AEPS (advanced electrical power systems) technologies. AEPS is also applicable to all surface ship, aircraft carrier, and submarine platforms. Energy conversion is fundamental to future electrical power systems. As a result, future systems also require new electrical, electromechanical, electrothermal, and photoelectric energy conversion processes and technologies. The AEPS thrust has the following sub-thrust that develop ship-wide energy conversion concepts, technologies and machinery for future electric warships: electromechanics, electrochemical energy conversion technology, electrical energy conversion technology, electromechanical energy conversion technology and electrical power systems. Lastly, the presentation provides an overview on focus areas, funded projects and funding mechanism.
