Abstract
There are a variety of lead acid battery technologies available today. While any of them, appropriately sized, may satisfy the performance requirements of an application initially, each technology is optimized to provide optimum electrical performance and service life in specific types of applications. The purpose of this paper is to familiarize the selecting engineer with the fundamental differences in design and construction of types of lead acid batteries and how these differences benefit performance and service life in specific types of applications.
