Abstract
This paper introduces a novel methodology for the calculation of the maximum power transfer between two points in large electric power networks. It takes advantage that the problem possesses only one degree of freedom. Consequently, an optimization algorithm using a quadratic approximation of the load flow equations is tractable, and provides a fairly accurate solution in a single iteration. It has been tested here on a 15 bus network. The solution reveals certain properties hidden up to now and identifies network bottlenecks activated by increased point-to-point power transfers.
